I got news last night that Gabrina isn't going to be a breeder. Her report said: " CUT: Cough with collar pressure." So she doesn't get to have babies, but she is going to be spayed and enter training at the next recall. I know there is a recall coming in the end of next week, but I'm not sure if she will go into training then. I don't know how soon she will enter training because she does have to recover from her spay surgery. This news is pretty exciting for me because I really think she would be a much better guide than she would be a mommy. But it's also a little disappointing, I was looking forward to raising one of her puppies, even if it meant overlapping. I just hope that having a cough with collar presure won't keep her from become a guide.
But I have to be competety honest. When I saw "CUT" my first thought was that she was career changed. I was super excited because I thought she was coming home. I know that she is going to become whatever God meant for her to be, wheither it's a guide, a K9 buddy, or a pet. Maybe she'll catch up to Gardner in training and we can go watch both of them graduate!

Well hopefully it was just a littler cough, and won't prevent her from becoming a guide. Now you get to look forward to the phase report each week!

Good luck to Gabrina as she enters training! Nearly the same exact thing happened to me with Gelly (back when she was still Angel)... she was pulled for breeding, spent nearly 2 months being evaluated, and then was dropped from breeding in part because of coughing with collar pressure. She was to be spayed and returned to the training department but then just a few days later she was cc'd anyway. I really hope that this will not be the case for Gabrina and that she will get a chance to see if guiding is for her! I think Gelly's case was pretty unusual, so I'm sure everything will be fine!
I can understand how you feel. It's such a guessing game! If only we knew what the outcome was going to be, then all these little clues and setbacks would fall into place and be nothing. But since we don't know, everything puts us on pins and needles.
I had never even heard of that collar cough until today when Cabana and I saw our CFR. She pulled on Cabana's flat collar, and Cabana gave a little hacking cough. Is there any dog that won't cough if you pull on their collars like that?!
Good luck to Gabrina! I wouldn't be that worried- if it was that big of an issue it probably would've been noticed earlier in breeder evals. Go Gabrina!!
